The MA Open Source Project seeks a Project Coordinator to assist in the development and implementation of the Evergreen system for three Massachusetts library automation networks.
This is a two-year grant-funded position; $65,000-$75,000 DOQ.
Key Responsibilities:
The Project Coordinator will be responsible for overall coordination of the open source grant project for C/W MARS, MVLC and NOBLE, the Open Source Project group. The Project Coordinator will report to the Steering Committee of the OSP, comprised of Executive Directors or their designees of the three networks. Immediate supervision will be provided by the Executive Director nearest to the Project Coordinator’s office.
1. Maintain database of system software requirements and priorities for the project.
2. Work with the OSP group to identify development needs, priorities, and explore development options.
3. Serve as liaison between the OSP group, software developers, development partners and the open-source ILS community.
4. Review the new system’s options, parameters and data structure options and work closely with network staff to devise a scheme that could be used by all three networks.
5. Work with OSP trainers to develop training materials and documentation.
6. Work with OSP networks to facilitate and document the data migration process.
7. Work with OSP networks to develop and formalize a support structure for the new software, which may include any or a combination of the following: pooled support by OSP networks, cooperative support with other libraries/groups using the same software and a commercial software company.
8. Work with OSP networks to develop a business plan to assure a solid financial future for the OSP project which is cost-effective for participants, and includes the possibility of growth through future participation by other Mass. networks.
9. Write grant reports.
10. Other duties as assigned by the OSP steering committee.
Qualifications:
- MLS degree and three years experience at a library, library consortia, or library automation company. A Bachelor degree in a related field and five years experience in library automation may be substituted for the MLS degree.
- Project management experience, especially in a virtual team environment.
- Familiarity with library automation, OPACs, Internet technologies.
- Experience with Dynix Horizon and/or III Millennium Integrated Library Systems preferred.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, website development tools such as Dreamweaver and Drupal, and presentation software.
- Familiarity with software development and programming in Perl, Java, or PHP.
- Ability to foster collaboration among participating Library Networks, vendors and the library open source community.
- Experience participating in an open-source project a plus.
- Supervisory experience a plus.
- Use of a vehicle.
